Escape to the magnificent scenery of the Waterberg Region in Limpopo Province in South Africa. Much of the Waterberg Region is still to be fully discovered with stunning mountain gorges, rolling hills, clear streams and excellent views. The area is rich in Game Reserves with the Big 5 and an abundance of indigenous plant life and animals. The Waterberg Region spans an area some 150km in length from Thabazimbi to the West to Mokopane (Potgietersrus) in the East. In the centre you will find towns like Nylstroom, Lephalale, Bela-Bela (Warmbaths) and Vaalwater. The area is becoming more popular with tourists looking to find something new in South Africa. The Waterberg area has a number of exciting eco-tourism projects now including the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve. The reserve is home to some 350 different bird species, 129 mammals and 2,000 plants. A number of key conservation areas have now joined together to create an area of some 150,000 hectares to conserve the rugged beauty and flora and fauna found here. The Waterberg region continues to open up as more land is changed from farming to open conservation area. This peaceful area is perfect for a relaxing holiday and you will find many game lodges, game reserves, golf estates, farm stays and game farms here offering good quality accommodation. Just some of the animals that you might expect to find in the Waterberg Region include elephant, leopard, buffalo, white and black rhino and lion. The amazing dark nights here are perfect for star-gazing and a number of places to stay offering Star Tours where you get the chance to look through modern telescops and special night sky video cameras. This is a great chance to catch a unique sight of the Milky Way and other galaxies.
